What does the word “Catholic” mean? Look up the word Catholic in any dictionary... English, Latin, Greek, etc. and you will find that the word “Catholic” means “Universal.” The popes claim to be the head of the Catholic or Universal church.
The word universe, the last time I knew, means beyond this earth, including the heavens. Some dictionaries say that the universe is “all existing things.”1 In many paintings, papal medals and in writings, the popes clearly demonstrate that they believe they are head over the universal church. This goes totally against what Jesus Christ Himself said that He is the head of the Church.
Ephesians 5:23 NKJ
23. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
The Scriptures clearly tell us that the head of His Church is Jesus Christ. If the pope is the head of his universal church, what church is that? It’s clearly not the Church of Jesus Christ, since Jesus Christ who is God is the head of His own Church and He is not a mere man like a pope.
The popes not only believe that they rule over the universal church, but also the universe in God’s place.
What does this have to do with the Antichrist? In the Book of Daniel chapter 11, God tells us how the Antichrist will behave.

36. "Then the king shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done.
The popes have done what this verse says for over 2000 years now. They have always claimed to be above all gods, including the One true God, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. By the popes claiming to be head over the universal church, they already have exalted themselves above all other gods.
Look at the harlot described in Revelation 17.

1. Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, "Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters,
The verse tells us that the harlot sits on many waters. What does that mean? Revelation 17:15 tells us.

15. And he said to me, "The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.
The harlot will sit on waters that represent “peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.” In other words, the harlot will rule over the nations of the earth. The papal medal illustrated below shows the Catholic church being represented as a woman who sits on the earth. She sits as a queen ruling the earth over “peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues,” just as Revelation 17:15 tells us.

Just as Daniel 11:36 (see the Scripture text quoted earlier on this page) speaks that the Antichrist will blaspheme God, the popes already speak blasphemies against God by exalting themselves above God. This will also be illustrated in my lesson on the meaning of the word “Antichrist” and one of the titles of the popes “Vicar of Christ.”
