How does Harry Potter and witchcraft fit into the End Times? The Bible speaks, especially of the Last Days, that the doctrines of demons will be emphasized and many will even abandon the faith of Jesus Christ to follow these doctrines of demons.
1 Timothy 4:1-2: NKJ
1. "Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
2. speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,"
What are the doctrines of demons? Basically, the doctrines of demons is witchcraft and are included in a whole list of abominations such as soothsaying, interpreting omens, sorcery, conjuring spells, a medium, a spiritist or one who calls up the dead. This list of abominations is found in Deuteronomy chapter 18.
It encourages me to see more and more people having nothing to do with Harry Potter and witchcraft. On the other hand...
It disappoints me at the world-wide acceptance of Harry Potter and witchcraft in our society. I see librarians dressed up as witches, people that young people look up to and respect, promoting Harry Potter or having reading times devoted to reading Harry Potter books.
What disappoints me more, which is really no surprise to me as I have observed the downhill slide of Christian morals and Godliness for many years, is that the Christian world has embraced Harry Potter and witchcraft right along with the ungodly world.
I've heard Christians say, about watching the Harry Potter movies or reading the Harry Potter books, "Harry Potter is okay because he's the good-guy and uses witchcraft for the good to help people fight against the bad witches." Wow. It's never a good thing to use witchcraft to fight against anything, good or bad. The Bible teaches that we should never participate with witchcraft of any kind. I know that God is angry with Christians and the ungodly who embrace witchcraft, whether it is white magic or black magic, white witchcraft or black witchcraft, whether for real or if it comes in the form of a movie or a book.
Let's look at the Scriptures, our guidebook on spiritual matters.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14: NKJ
9. ""When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.
10. "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,
11. "or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.
12. "For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.
13. "You shall be blameless before the Lord your God.
14. "For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not appointed such for you.""
In these passages, God tells us that it is an abomination to practice witchcraft, soothsaying, interpreting omens, practicing sorcery, conjures spells, medium, spiritists or one who brings back the dead. Whether it is real or portrayed in a movie or book makes no difference.
That is why God drove out those nations from the land of Canaan because they did those things and gave that land to Israel. Do you think that God has changed His standards so that now, through seemingly innocent movies or books, God is pleased with the very thing He cursed? I know not.
As innocent as the world makes evil look good and acceptable, it is still an abomination to participate in such things... even in movies or books.
2 Kings 17:13-18: NKJ
13. "Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, namely every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets.''
14. Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God.
15. And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers, and His testimonies which He had testified against them; they followed idols, became idolaters, and went after the nations who were all around them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them that they should not do like them.
16. So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
17. And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger.
18. Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone."
Especially notice God's judgment against Israel by calling witchcraft an evil way, in verses 13 and 17. God also told Israel they "sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger," in verse 17. God is angry when the world follows after witchcraft, but He gets even angrier when His people turn from His commandments to follow after witchcraft.
How many Christians have craved the Harry Potter movies and books and can't get enough of them, yet many of those same Christians wouldn't walk into a Christian book store and read a Godly book with that same enthusiasm. Most Christians who are running after Harry Potter aren't running after Godly books; they run after the ungodly ones. Even more, many of those same Christians running after Harry Potter won't even think about spending one hour a week reading the Bible, God's Word, yet they spend hours upon hours soaking in Harry Potter from books and movies. I suppose they don't feel the Bible is intriguing enough or worldly enough to meet their evil passions.
God gives us His judgment upon Israel when they turned their backs on God's commandments and turned to witchcraft and other abominations, in the Scripture just quoted above. I'll repeat it here.
2 Kings 17:18: NKJ
18. "Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone."
God will remove you, Christian or ungodly person alike, who does not repent of this great sin and stop following after the abominations of Satan like witchcraft. In the Book of Galatians is God's idea of how far He takes the punishment of those who participate in witchcraft.
Galatians 5:19-21: KJV
19. "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21. Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."
Those who practice or participate in witchcraft will not inherit or enter into the kingdom of heaven. This is straight from the apostle Paul whose writings we, as Christians, are supposed to be abiding by and living by. And also whose writings the ungodly are supposed to hear and repent of their sins and turn to God. But, how can we expect the ungodly world to turn from their sins when Christians are sinning against God by participating in the sins of the world, just like they are?
No wonder Jesus said, these words in Matthew:
Matthew 7:13-14: NKJ
13. ""Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
14. "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
15. "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.""
I want to repeat the Scriptures from 1 Timothy here, once again.
1 Timothy 4:1-2: NKJ
1. "Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
2. speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,"
In 1 Timothy 4:1-2, Paul tells us that people will "depart from the faith giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons." You might say, "I didn't abandon my faith. I follow Harry Potter and still go to church and live a Godly life." No, what you actually did, by following Harry Potter and witchcraft, is abandon your faith to follow those deceiving spirits who tell you that you can follow Christ and witchcraft also. You are believing a lie called a lie of hypocrisy. What is a lie of hypocrisy? This particular lie, being applied to its context of doctrines of demons, says that you can mix witchcraft and Christianity and be okay as a Christian. God condemns witchcraft of all kinds for everyone, but especially for His people.
I expect Christians and the ungodly to repent of these abominations and turn back to God and follow His commandments. That is what Paul the apostle taught and God Himself taught us straight from His Word.
I pray that God opens the eyes of every person who has gone after witchcraft; those who either practice it or those who find it intriguing enough to watch witchcraft movies or read witchcraft books. God hasn't changed and still finds it an abomination. God will forgive you of these sins, but you must ask Jesus to forgive you of them and stop participating in those things such as witchcraft that God calls evil.
